"HIBERNATING" by Keenan Marchand

"HIBERNATING" by Keenan Marchand

Glacier waters trickle down, peppered by the cheerful cannon fire of the world’s most talkative birds. The teething wind playfully tugs and tears at my clothes. The world is waking up, and I feel a pull towards life, offering everything and promising even more. I feel the need to shake off the dust and cobwebs in my body, collected from the indeterminate amount of time I’ve spent in this hibernation. Cosmic Forecast June 2023

Cosmic Forecast June 2023

Togetherness is the central theme this month. June bridges Gemini and Cancer Season—the former being the sign that rules close relationships and communication, and the latter ruling emotional nurturance as well as the boundary between the self and others. Events shared via Instagram posters instead of Facebook pages have brought in a new crowd eager for live music. New venues like this one (Green Auto Body) have popped up, and old ones have been renamed. I am now much older than when I first experienced them, but in a way it’s nice to feel like I’m revisiting an old version of myself through the power of cheap PBR and second-hand smoke.

Sell Out, A Series: 5 Questions with Nancy Lee

Sell Out is a series by interdisciplinary artist Angela Fama (she/they), who co-creates conversations with individual artists across Vancouver. Questioning ideas of artistry, identity, “day jobs,” and how they intertwine, Fama settles in with each artist (at a local café of their choice) and asks the same series of questions. With one roll of medium format film, Fama captures portraits of the artist after their conversations.

An exercise in revealing & withdrawing at Amanda Sum’s New Age Attitudes: Live in Concert

Minutes before her solo performance, theatre artist, songwriter, and musician Amanda Sum sat in the lobby of the Cultch’s Historic Theatre as the crowd poured in.
