Thinking about Dying and Learning How to Live: An Interview With Still Depths On Best plan for your life

Thinking about Dying and Learning How to Live: An Interview With Still Depths On Best plan for your life

I am back at a DIY venue and still getting used to it. It’s the first one I’ve been to since I was seventeen, and since then, new bands have emerged to play shows with ones I already know. Events shared via Instagram posters instead of Facebook pages have brought in a new crowd eager for live music. New venues like this one (Green Auto Body) have popped up, and old ones have been renamed. I am now much older than when I first experienced them, but in a way it’s nice to feel like I’m revisiting an old version of myself through the power of cheap PBR and second-hand smoke.

An exercise in revealing & withdrawing at Amanda Sum’s New Age Attitudes: Live in Concert

Minutes before her solo performance, theatre artist, songwriter, and musician Amanda Sum sat in the lobby of the Cultch’s Historic Theatre as the crowd poured in. There, she individually handed out an envelope containing a pop-up book, a pen, and a piece of white rabbit candy to each person in attendance.

Hoodie Browns and Lovely Company at 648 Kingsway

Let me describe to you the difference between a song and a sigh, between a recording and a live show. The act of being together in time, through the measure of music. The breezy tune is paradoxically a song about grief; one that was inspired by the passing of a band member’s family member in August.

New Sounds, New Beginnings: A conversation with AC-PDF

You're sitting in a café–let’s say Liberty on Main. You dressed hot for someone to tell you tastefully, “You look cool.” You brought a book you intend to read but don’t. Instead, you're listening to the same old tunes you keep repeating until you physically can't listen to them anymore. You crave something new, nostalgic, yet totally original with members you can relate to. You scroll until you reach a band that captures your attention. A two-member duo that, like you, is going through some changes, a reinvention in their sound and lyrics. That band is AC-PDF.
