Board Positions & Responsibilities

President

As the leader of the board, the President provides strategic direction, chairs board meetings, and ensures that the organization fulfills its mission. This role involves collaboration with the the committee chairs, leading governance efforts, and representing the organization publicly.

Commitment:

• Attend monthly board meetings and executive committee meetings

• Provide leadership and guidance on strategic initiatives

• Serve as the primary liaison between the board and leadership team

Vice President

The Vice President supports the President and steps in when needed. This role often involves leading special projects, overseeing board development, and ensuring that committees function effectively.

Commitment:

• Attend monthly board meetings and committee meetings

• Assist in governance and strategic decision-making

• Step in for the President when necessary

Treasurer

The Treasurer oversees the organization’s finances, ensures accurate financial reporting, and collaborates with the finance team on budgeting and compliance.

Commitment:

• Review financial statements and present reports at board meetings

• Assist in budget planning and financial oversight

• Serve on the finance or audit committee

Secretary

The Secretary ensures that board meetings are documented, records are maintained, and key governance materials are accessible.

Commitment:

• Take and distribute meeting minutes

• Maintain organizational records and board documentation

• Support board communication and scheduling

General Board Members

Board members contribute their expertise in areas such as fundraising, marketing, legal, finance, or community outreach. They participate in decision-making, advocate for the organization, and support fundraising efforts.

Commitment:

• Attend monthly board meetings and serve on at least one committee

• Participate in fundraising and community engagement initiatives

• Offer professional expertise and guidance

Board Member Expectations

Term Length: Typically a 1 or 2 year term

Meeting Attendance: Monthly board meetings plus occasional committee meetings

Engagement: Actively participate in discussions, fundraising, and organizational events

Advocacy: Serve as an ambassador for the organization within your network
