Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) presents its 43rd edition from September 26–October 6, 2024. This year’s lineup features more than 350 screenings, dozens of filmmaker Q&A’s, Talks with top creatives, live performances, artist and industry development programs, parties, and celebrations of film culture.
World premieres include Vancouver-based Korean-Canadian director Jerome Yoo's debut feature film MONGRELS about an immigrant family trying to find their way in a new world, and from Director Mads K. Baekkevold and writer Natalie Murao the TELUS originals and Wallop documentary feature THE CHEF & THE DARUMA, which follows the moving story of Vancouver's award-winning Master Chef Hidekazu Tojo. Also premiering is Chinese-Canadian and Calgary-based filmmaker Gillian McKercher's debut feature LUCKY STAR a family drama about fatherly love, deceit, and redemption, and a slice of life from the Chinese-prairie diaspora starring Vancouver-based actors Terry Chen (House of Cards), Olivia Cheng (Warrior) and and Conni Miu (The Boys) and Calgary's Andrew Phung (Kim's Convenience). LUCKY STAR is world premiering this month and will also play Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival and has been selected as the closing night film for the Calgary International Film Festival. INAY (MAMA), the documentary feature debut from Filipina-Canadian filmmaker Thea Loo will have its Canadian and hometown premiere at VIFF on the heels of its world premiere in New York Asian American International Film Festival. In INAY (MAMA), Loo and her husband explore the intersections of mental health and migrant labour.
