Three generations negotiate the highways of life in exclusive staged reading
North Vancouver BC | Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō, and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Territories
Driving Me Crazy crashes onto the stage September 25 – 26 at Presentation House Theatre in North Vancouver.
The rehearsed, staged readings of Driving Me Crazy mark another exciting step in the development of this notable new play by Linda A. Carson and Suzanne Ristic. Driving Me Crazy received honourable mention in the 2019 National Theatre B.C. Playwriting competition and was accepted for public script readings at West Vancouver’s Kay Meek Theatre, Off The Page Reading Series in Gibsons, and Theatre One in Nanaimo.
Inspired by stories from three generations, Driving Me Crazy, follows Liz, a grandmother fighting to keep her driver’s license, her independence and her voice in society. Liz is surrounded by her family: a son and daughter-in-law who are addicted to their cars, a granddaughter who is passionate about the environmental fight against oil guzzling vehicles, and a grandson on his way to learn hard lessons about drinking and driving. Anyone who has driven a car, been driven in a car, or been driven mad by their own family will laugh, cry and gasp.
Each performance will be followed by an interactive feedback session encouraging the audience to share their own life and driving stories. Famed playwright Terrence McNally says, “Theatre changes the heart, then it changes the mind, and that makes people get off their asses and do something.” After a year of change, this play is guaranteed to drive you off your ass with a fun stop at the madhouse.
