Canadian jazz icon, multi-award-winning singer-songwriter, and host of CBC’s Saturday Night Jazz, Laila Biali announces the launch of her hotly anticipated new album Out of Dust on March 27 and album release concert on May 2 — part of a national tour. Be among the first to hear Biali’s deeply intimate album live, the first since her 2019 JUNO Award for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year, alongside special guest artist and three-time JUNO nominee Jodi Proznick on bass, and students from the VSO School of Music.
Rooted in Biali’s own personal struggle through doubt, heartache, and loss, Out of Dust is an uplifting tribute to the hope and resilience found within life’s journey. A genre-bending chanteuse who “masterfully mixes jazz and pop, bringing virtuosity and unpredictability to songs” (Washington Post), the soulful new album, co-produced with her husband Ben Wittman, features multiple collaborators including Grammy Award winners Lisa Fischer and Larnell Lewis.
