grunt gallery, Other Sights for Artists’ Projects, and Creative Cultural Collaborations present the public launch and first open house of the historic Blue Cabin Floating Artist Residency on August 25, 2019, at the Plaza of Nations in False Creek. The unique initiative — comprised of a restored squatter’s cabin and an energy-efficient deckhouse, moored in the waterways of the Lower Mainland — will examine local histories and resurgent Indigenous traditions from Canada and Australia during its inaugural yearlong program titled Skeins: Weaving on the Foreshore. Featured artists include Angela George (Squamish/Tsleil-Waututh), Janice George and Buddy Joseph (Squamish), Debra Sparrow (Musqueam), and Australian Indigenous artist and activist Vicki Couzens (Gunditjmara). Tours of the Blue Cabin will be held every 15 minutes from 11:30am–5:30pm during the public launch; additional open house dates to be announced.
