Award-Winning Doc, THE SECRET MARATHON, premieres globally with unique virtual screening, Q&A & networking

After sold-out shows at the film’s festival premieres, THE SECRET MARATHON is debuting globally at the end of the month on Demand Film. Following Guinness World Record marathoner Martin Parnell and filmmaker/first time marathoner Kate McKenzie as they journey from Canada to support the first Afghan woman who ran in the Marathon of Afghanistan, this film tells a powerful story of equality and determination against all odds.

The Secret Marathon centres on the first Afghan woman who stood up for her freedom and ran in the Marathon of Afghanistan, in doing so she started a movement for equality that spread around the world. Zainab’s story inspired legendary marathon runner, Martin Parnell, to imagine what his life might be like if his gender prevented him from going outside to run. Martin vowed to run in the Marathon of Afghanistan the following year to support Zainab, and partnered with filmmaker and first time marathoner, Kate McKenzie, to tell the story. To avoid making the marathon a target for terrorist attack, they train, and travel to Afghanistan in secret and uncover unexpected beauty, incredible hardships, and amazing people who stand for change.

This first-of-its-kind virtual experience will be available across the country and in AUS, the UK, Ireland, and the US and will feature live Q&A + networking at each screening!

Over the course of a weekend there will be multiple screenings. Each screening will include networking opportunities, a hi-def film screening, an interactive Q&A and special guests including author, TV commentator and the first woman to run the Boston Marathon Kathrine Switzer, ultra marathoner and Free to Run ambassador Mahsa, award-winning author and the founder of the Running Room John Stanton and many more.
