We are currently seeking a talented, creative individual to take over the role of Business Manager. This is a great learning opportunity for someone who is passionate about the arts community and wants to develop their business management and financial accounting skills in a fun, creative organization. The schedule is flexible, making it perfect for students or others with concurrent professional/personal responsibilities.

The Business Manager works closely with other members of the SAD Mag team, particularly the Development Director, and with the Board of Directors.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Co-management of the SAD Mag bank account

  • Manage the end-to-end process for SAD’s Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Inventory

  • Work with the Finance Manager and Public Accountant  in the preparation of SAD’s annual Financial Statements

  • Contribute to overall SAD Mag strategy

  • Co-manage financial tracking spreadsheets

  • File BC Society Annual Report with BC Registry

Shared responsibilities of all members of the SAD Mag collective:

  • Cultivating a welcoming, inclusive organization

  • Championing the Vancouver arts & culture community

  • Participating in regular collective meetings

  • Reporting to the board of directors, as required

Requirements:

  • Must be based in the Metro Vancouver (BC) area

  • Applicants who can commit for a full year (2 issues) or longer are strongly preferred

  • Current or completed studies in Business or Finance are preferred

Perks & Compensation:

  • SAD Mag is a volunteer-run publication so there is no compensation at this time. However, you can expect some great opportunities and perks, including:

    • Mentorship and support from outgoing SAD Mag staff

    • Oversight and guidance from qualified professionals on the board

    • Camaraderie with the truly incredible team of SAD Mag staff

    • Industry connections and opportunities

    • An opportunity to gain experience and skills with business, finance and grant applications/fundraising

    • Creative input on an established, exciting young publication

    • We also throw great parties

Time Commitment:

The SAD Mag Business Manager position will require a couple hours each month, with concentrated periods of work (4-6 hours) in the period surrounding new issue launches. The majority of work is on your own schedule, coordinating with the board of directors and other team members as necessary. We would be happy to discuss how each issue is produced with interested applicants!

This position is great for someone with a flexible schedule and an interest in working in the arts community. Training will be provided. Applicants who identify as POC or queer are especially encouraged to apply, as SAD Mag is committed to supporting diversity in the Vancouver publishing industry.

Training and support will be provided by senior staff and the board of directors.

Please apply with a cover letter (in the body of an email is fine) and a resume to hello@sadmag.ca with Business Manager in the subject line.  The deadline is August 31, 2024.
