SAD Mag (Stories, Art & Design) is a biannual, Vancouver-based publication that features creative work by local, emerging writers and artists. Founded in 2009, SAD Mag has published 34 issues and gained a loyal readership in Vancouver and beyond.

We are currently seeking an organized, relationship builder to take over the role of Distribution & Subscription Manager (DSM). This is a great opportunity for someone looking to get involved with the local arts scene and gain experience working in the publishing world, with a flexible time commitment suitable for a student or person with another job.

The DSM will work closely with the Co-Publishers and the Board to ensure the magazine’s success through distribution and ad sales.

Duties & Responsibilities:

● Manage the subscription database

● Fulfill all new subscription requests (mailing issues to subscribers)

● Deliver issues and pick up unsold copies to local stockists (5 total as of Feb 2023)

● Prepare labels and supplies for mail-outs (2 x annually)

● Ideally develop strategies of how to obtain new stockists

Requirements:

● Must be based in Vancouver, B.C.

● Preferably some experience with print magazines, in a writing or editing capacity

● Ability to build and maintain professional relationships

● Knowledge of the Vancouver arts & culture scene

● The ability to commit for a minimum of one (1) year

● Experience with SAD Mag is an asset

● Access to a vehicle

Time Commitment:

As the SAD Mag DSM, you can expect to commit a few hours biweekly to email and correspondence.

Along with this, you will be expected to spend a minimum of 4 hours per month mailing issues and tending to any distribution or stockist-related correspondence. This position is great for someone with a flexible schedule and an interest in relationship building within the arts and culture industry.
