Cosmic Forecast March 2022

March is a bridge month. We end the astrological year in Pisces and transition to Aries on the Spring Equinox, also known as Ostara. Pisces is the elder of the zodiac while Aries is the newborn. March is the place where these two touch and intermingle, inviting us to experience the wisdom of old age right alongside a sense of childhood wonder.

The overarching themes of the month are introspection, getting comfortable with unpredictable emotional weather patterns, and leaning into sensitivity—deepening our empathy and even our psychic abilities. The “mature” energy of Pisces season is kind of like that of Tolkien’s elves: youthful, sharp, and beautiful, yet ancient and emotionally wizened. They know how chaotic and nonsensical human whims can be, viewing the foibles of a short human lifespan through the lens of millennia. The “apprentice” energy of Pisces season is about moving through that chaos of being a short-sighted human being. It’s about developing profound wisdom that comes through observing your emotional experience, choices, and worries within a wider context of your existence.

On the 2nd, a New Moon in Pisces opens the month, conjunct Jupiter and, of course, the Sun. Mercury joins them on the 9th alongside Neptune—Pisces ruler—which has already been in the sign for a decade. The Piscean energy has been extra potent since Jupiter entered the sign on December 28, 2021. Jupiter is the planet of expansion and, in the natal chart, it indicated where we have the most luck. It’s also the co-ruler of Pisces. Jupiter in Pisces means that there’s potential for good luck and opportunities to come to us through more spiritual or magical means. It’s a time of full surrender to the unknown. Patience and faith will likely get you further than hard work. It’s a time to be receptive and perceptive. This is a season for being in the right place at the right time and for paying attention to synchronicity and kismet.

With the New Moon in close quarters with Jupiter and then Neptune, emotions are heightened and much less rational—feelings may bubble up, seemingly from nowhere. It could be easier to express your feelings or the way you express them could be louder, more confident. Overreactions may be warranted, but that doesn’t mean high levels of ostentatiousness won’t rub others the wrong way. If you look closely, you might notice that people are having a hard time handling your feelings, not a hard time handling you or the situation at hand. We all have varying abilities when it comes to taking care of others. If someone is unable to hold space for your big emotions, it’s a good time to communicate that or accept that they aren’t the right person to turn to when you need to have a big, cathartic cry.

The Sun is directly conjunct Jupiter on the 5th and conjunct Neptune on the 13th. By this time, the Moon’s influence will have moved into Aries on its way to the Full Moon in Virgo on the 18th. With the Sun presiding over these generational planets, their effects will be more conscious. You may find yourself wanting to stand out and express yourself. The Sun rules Leo, after all, so that creative, imaginative magnetism will combine with Pisces’ eccentric aunt energy. It’s a good time to share creative work or dive deeper into your own artistic practice. With Neptune’s influence, experimentation and, again, faith in the unknown will help us connect with our innate creative spirits.

Venus and Mars are still hanging out in conjunction and will transit into Aquarius on the 6th. In Aquarius, these planets release some of their carnal energy and yield to a more detached, intellectual approach to desire and drive. For those who have their natal Sun, Venus, or Mars in Aquarius, this transit will feel more natural and easy—you may feel less pressured to engage with your emotions or relax into knowing you don’t really have to be forthcoming with how you feel. Note that Earth and Water signs (or those with heavy Earth and Water placements) might feel alienated by the apparent emotional coldness of this transit.

Venus and Mars impact our romantic lives and our relationship to intimacy in all connections. It’s a great time to take a more logical approach to feelings typically driven by your passions: reassess whether your relationships are actually serving you and fulfilling you beyond a rush of hormones. Also, reflect on how you’re showing up in your friendships: are there practical changes you need to make to how you schedule and coordinate with friends? It’s time to be the secretary for your most important relationships. Take the time to facilitate those hangouts and phone calls the way you would manage an important project at work.

On the 20th, the Sun will move into Aries, kicking off Ostara, the pagan holiday celebrating new life, rebirth, and faith revealing that there is always spring after deep winter. The energy is fresh, abundant, sparkling. The month ends with another conjunction of the Moon, Jupiter, and Neptune. Jupiter and Neptune will continue their conjunction well into April. Let the last waves of Pisces season wash you onto the warm beach of Aries’ headstrong joy for being alive. Prepare to grab this brief human lifespan you’ve been gifted by the horns and hold on tight.
